The Africa Trust
Mission Statement
The Africa Trust works to bring sustainable solutions to poverty in Africa. This includes establishing sustainable supplies of clean productive water and decent sanitation. Income generating projects are used to pay school fees, improve clinics and generate the funds needed to run orphanages.
Wealth creation is an important objective, with business skills training helping school leavers and villagers to start or expand profitable businesses. Solar projects are used to cut energy costs and create local employment. Funds are circulated to catalyse projects and are then extracted to establish new projects or to invest in expansion.
Perfect Printer Cartridges, The Africa Trust and the Elephant Pump
As with its sister company, AquAid, the Perfect Printer Cartridges ethos is to conduct business in a manner that benefits not only the customer, but also helps others, particularly those who do not have access to something we all take for granted – clean, fresh drinking water. To this end, of all the charitable projects in its portfolio, one of the Africa Trust’s most successful projects is the Elephant Pump. A modified version of an age old Chinese rope pulley system, the Elephant Pump, competing against 250 other applicants, was awarded the prestigious St Andrews Medal for the Environment in 2005.
In his personal recommendation, Prince Charles – a patron for the St Andrews Medal – had this to say about the Elephant Pump:
Perfect Printer Cartridges donates 2.5% of its revenue to the Africa Trust. Together with its sister company, AquAid, it has helped the Africa Trust build over 5,000 such pumps in developing countries throughout Africa.
